If I Stay has the underlying ability to make you both laugh, and then cry. The premise of which is a mix between both The Notebook meets Ghost. Plus it holds a far more accurate representation of youths than most other cinema. So how good is all mixed together?

Based off the best-selling YA novel, the story follows Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz), a musical arts child prodigy with dreams of attending Julliard (a university with an amazing music course). With that she is stuck with the decision to either pursue Julliard, or stay with the love of her life, Adam (portrayed by Jamie Blackley). After a devastating car accident, she is left comatised. Caught in between a life and death state, only she can decide her ultimate fate.

Capturing the highs and lows of teen life (and comas), the film is thoughtfully emotional. One scene in particular with Stacey Leach was rather moving, probably enough to make the audience shed at least one tear.

If I Stay is a tough film for any teen to lead, but Chloe Grace Mortez nails it with perhaps her career best, with a future as promising as hers we cannot wait to see what happens next!

Unfortunately however, she is the highlight of the film, and the rest does not hold up as well as it should. Editing at points was notably, and not being set in chronological order was more of a hindrance than help, leaving the mix between memories and current time misplaced.

None-the-less it was passionate with music, romantic with drama, and utterly depressing. If I Stay is a good independent film, but not crafted the best it could... If I Stay < Fault in Our Stars.
