Given the accolade ‘the funniest man in Sweden’ – Robert Gustafsson has quite a lot to live up to for its some nine-million residents and the rest of the world.

His latest film *deep breath* The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared, based on the 2009 best-selling novel by Jonas Jonasson, tackles both comedy, adventure and the meaning of life all in a bonkers tale.

Allan Karlson (Robert Gustafsson) has had a long and eventful life, but sadly has ended up in a retirement home. On the eve of his 100th birthday celebrations he decides that life isn’t quite over yet and climbs out the window, heads to the train station, buys a ticket to nowhere and lets the journey take him away. Unsure of where he is heading, the film heads into the unexpected and unless you have read the book, you would not know what happens next.

Narrated with flashbacks into his past and lessons that he has learnt al la Forrest Gump style. He recalls his life as a dynamite expert, wars, meeting with fame and changing the shape of the 20th century throughout other highlights.

Directed by Felix Herngren, the film is split into a satirical mix of past and present stories where Gustafson plays the younger self in flashbacks and older self in present day (with the help of Jackass aging prosthetics). In between all of that is a carnival-esqe, catchy theme and tongue-in-cheek dark humour. The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared goes beyond expectations and lives up to the hype generated from both its book, and box-office smash in Sweden.
