Michael Fassbender Gives An Update on Assassins Creed Movie Adaption

I'm not a huge video game guy, and haven’t played through the whole Assassins Creed series, but have done so with the last two entrees. I thoroughly enjoyed them and would recommend the series to anyone. The game play was simply amazing. If they adapt one of my favorite aspects of the game, we're in for some amazing visuals; don't really mean that in the action sense, but cinematography wise. As for the story, there is definitely some legit dramatic opportunities to be explored.

Video game movies usually never pan out. When ones announced, I try not to get my hopes up at all, no matter what it is I'm hearing. I sort of broke my own rule when it was revealed by Variety back in 2012 that Michael Fassbender would be producing, but more importantly starring in the film adaptation as well. A big name (with big talent to back it up) like that being thrown in the mix can do wonders. It brings instant intrigue.

Fassbender has a commanding screen presence and is by far one of my favorite actors working today. But then started the rumors that Fassbender was leaving the project due to the delays. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. He recently spoke with IGN about the film. Here's what he had to say: (Must be read in appropriate accent);

“I love these rumors! It's fantastic. People talk about it, and they're hopefully interested. Nothing has changed, yeah. I'm still a part of Assassin's Creed, and we're working on the scripts as we speak. Actually, I'm going to go back and see the writers when I get back to Europe. You know, we absolutely want to respect the game. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can’t, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love this world. I don't really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory – you know, I think it's a very feasible scientific theory. I just thought, 'This is so rich,' and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I'm really excited about it, and we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package.”

There's a tricky balance in honoring/using/keeping the spirit of what the game is all about, while also adding and altering stuff. I think this could end up being something special, there is real potential here. Assassins Creed is set to open August 7, 2015. Now things have to start moving with the supposed release date just under a year from now.

What do you think? Are you excited? Think it's going to bomb? Like what Fassbender had to say? Let us know in the comments section below.
