Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon – according to The Hollywood Reporter – are in talks to work on another Bourne movie! The news definitely comes as a pleasant surprise. Greengrass had said numerous times in the past that he was done with the series. If the deal does indeed get finalized, aside from directing, Greengrass will also be writing. That would mark his first writing endeavor with Bourne. As for Damon, he’ll of course be reprising his role of Jason Bourne. If this does happen, the rumor is it’ll push past the sequel to The Bourne Legacy. Deadline says the studio is very eager to get this one in production. The target release date is July 16, 2016. There haven’t been any plot details revealed yet.

The Jeremy Renner led entrée, while not up to par with the original, still managed to capture some of what makes the franchise special. There is nothing like that trilogy, though. I’ve seen them countless times; the re-watch ability factor is extremely high. That’s truly a perfect example of the action genre at its absolute best. Has a well written interesting central character, and is action-packed, while being intelligent. It shows that an action movie doesn’t have to be dumb to entertain.

Even though The Bourne Ultimatum capped off the trilogy in a strong way, and another isn’t entirely necessary, I don’t really care. I’m just so excited about the possibility of seeing Jason Bourne back in action again. Still believe there’s more story to tell as well. I have faith since Damon and Greengrass would be at the helm, they wouldn’t let this just become a lazily attempted cash grab. I’m sure this will be a worthy addition to the franchise. Now, this is still in somewhat early negotiations, so things could possibly fall apart (it seems to be looking pretty good right now). I really hope everything works out.
